Fring 4.0 Review
Today, I shall review Fring version 4.0.
This application is very famous and I am sure most of you already have used it at some point of time. You may ask whats there to review something which most people have already used? Here’s the catch, this is the new , updated version of Fring, which supports video calling through skype on your Symbian60 devices,such as the E72 and others.
On November 24th 2009,
Fring proudly announced the first ever video call made using the internet on a mobile phone[via Skype].
I was eager to check it out, once I got the application, it looked pretty much the same as the previous versions of the application , but then, once you go to the options menu to make a VoIP call, you are asked to choose between a standard voice call or a Video call.
There is a default contact “fring test call” which ,till now helped you check whether you voice calling facility was running smoothly, but now, it adds on the Video cal checking facility also!
Once you initiate a video call [Video calls are currently available only for Skype users.], the loudspeaker automatically gets activated and a small image of yourself [or whatever the secondary camera of your device is pointing at] is shown at the top right corner of your screen.In the center of the screen is the caller’s image.
This ran smoothly and was lag free[WiFi connection was used].This application is really a boon for anyone who likes to chat! the power of a computer and a webcam is now in your handheld device thanks to fring! With this version, fring sure has reached a new level!

infect i was using fring v3.5, but after reading your blog i quickly installed 4.0 on E72, but it seems to me that fring does not shoe any video call option… do you know why is it so?

Just tried 4.1.12 on my E-72, and no video calling available. Did you actually test this out on an E-72?
Are you sure if video calling feature works on E72?
I checked with fring and they said it not supported on E72.
Can you also confirm.
Yes it does work. I have it on my E72 and my wife overseas has it on her E71. The voice was spotty got I got to use the chat by just clicking to the right and back to video call. Not perfect but I got to see my wife whiles I chat. I’m pretty sure they will work out the bugs or maybe it’s one of our connections. go to fring.com and download the latest. It has the video call feature built in…Enjoy.

ok i have the e73 in i guess thats the upgrade from the e72 in it doesnt support fring butit has a front facing web cam ehow is this possible? am i doing somthng wrong?
why did you removed the video calling from symbian60.i have it with my e72.and it was very successfull.clear and clean when im calling fr.skype 2 skype wether it is video or voicecall.is it posible that you will return it again…thanks
